The Thailand hotel
As I sit here waiting for news, I look out of my hotel window at the Bangkok skyline. A mist settles in the distance as a red sun starts to set between each hazy cloud. Tall modern buildings spread before me, the occasional glimpse of a bird, a plane and then the sky train-Thailand's mass transit comforts me as if to say at least someone is there, thinking, working to find my brother who has not been heard of in six months. To one side of the view I think I can make out a temple in the distance- the Grand Palace perhaps? The silence in this room is almost deafening, I hear nothing but see everything. Not even a sound from a neighbouring room, or the footsteps from the hallway of newly arriving guests. I drop a holy bible to the floor just to break the silence-just to make sure I'm not dreaming. I'm not dreaming-to kill time I slowly count the carved shapes in the wooden corners of the ceiling, as I stare at each carving I can see a face that each one resembles- a friendly face, no a fearful face or just ones that reflect my current state of mind.
I ponder on the idea of having another Chivas Regal from the mini bar. I change my mind since a drunken state would only magnify this feeling of despair and loss. This room is about 30 meters square in all, large for a hotel room-large enough to fit this rather ornate King size double at any rate. Everything is perfect about this room. Its only imperfection is that it is too perfect. Maybe I should have stayed somewhere less perfect? I smile at the idea of writing a review and giving this Bangkok hotel a low rate; my reasons being. (1) The hotel room smells too clean, its smells as though it's never been lived in .(2)The room is too quiet, the silence is so loud it hurts my ears and gives me a sense of isolation. There's no pleasing some is there? Had it not been for this hotel's location, high speed internet and good phone access, I wouldn't have chosen this hotel. For a start I can't afford it. And besides, if I was going to stay at a five star hotel in Bangkok Thailand I would have surely saved these moments for happier times. Not brought out here on the recommendation of the embassy to help look for Danny who went walkabout in the jungle one day and never returned. It seems strange that no one was that concerned at the time. But when I raised the alarm with the embassy, police and then the tour operators only then the locals began to remember. Conveniently remembering my brother. Danny, he was the star in my family, a bit of a whiz who needless to say outshone his older brother. Even appeared on TV on one of those quiz game shows and won! Danny the adventurer the strong- I call room service, they answer immediately (too quickly). I order Pat Thai (Thai noodles) and within 7 minutes it arrives at my door. The service is stupendous. This hotel is amazing, like nowhere I've ever stayed before. It's like a dream, a dream that I wish I could wake from. If anyone knows anything about Danny, please let us or someone know.
